The simplest way to get to Tatranská Lomnica is via Poprad.
Getting to Poprad
- There is a small airport in Bratislava, with a couple of flights to/from some European airports each day
- The closest frequented international airports are Vienna and Budapest
- From Vienna airport, the best possibility to get to Poprad is to
- take a bus to Bratislava (1 hour)
- then a train to Poprad (every 2 hours, the trip takes 3 -- 4 hours depending on train, you should buy a seat reservation)
- From Budapest, the best possibility to get to Poprad is to
- take a train to Košice
- then a train to Poprad
From Poprad to Tatranská Lomnica station by train (tram)
Poprad to Tatranská Lomnica via Starý Smokovec
- there is a train from Poprad to Tatranská Lomnica every hour during the day, always at n:36, direction Štrbské Pleso
- you will need to transfer to another train in Starý Smokovec, direction Tatranská Lomnica
- the tickets to Tatranská Lomnica are sold in Poprad, you do not have to buy another ticket in Starý Smokovec
- you will need to stamp your ticket in a stamping machine when you get on the train in Poprad
- remark: the cp.sk site will not show you this connection, as it optimizes for the duration of the trip and taking a bus is marginally faster (but inconvenient). If you want to find this connection, go to https://www.zssk.sk/.
Direct train from Poprad to Tatranská Lomnica
- there is a possibility to use a direct train from Poprad to Tatranská Lomnica
- this direct train departs every two hours at 2n:16
Weekly ticket
- in Poprad, it is also possible to buy weekly ticket for the "local transportation" trains for the whole High Tatras region (see our local information page). This weekly ticket is also valid for the connections Poprad -- Tatranská Lomnica (and back). The ticket costs 16 EUR.
Via Starý Smokovec by FLIXBUS
- There are two direct bus lines, operated by FLIXBUS
- Krakow <--> Starý Smokovec
- Budapest <--> Starý Smokovec
- From Starý Smokovec, you can take a bus or a tram to Tatranská Lomnica
